Using Chrome

I’ve been using Google’s Chrome since it came out and like most software it has it’s good and bad points. Here is just a brief list of what I like and don’t like.

  • Interface. I like the tabs at the top, the (+) to create tabs and the very small size of all the controls and other window elements. I feel that I can see more of the webpage instead of all the other window parts that come with any window you open.
  • Home page. They stole the whole ’tiles of some of your favorite windows’ idea from Opera, but it doesn’t mean it’s a bad thing. I like having the default page be an overview with the webpages tiled there, as well as a list of some of the pages I closed to the right. I rarely have to use my bookmarks for anything now.
Some of the stuff that annoys me:
  • As a development platform, it still isn’t there yet. Firefox with the Firebug plugin still rocks. Some of the built in features in Chrome are great, and much better than Firefox alone, but with Firebug…There is nothing better.
  • Options. The options you can tweek are just so limited I feel locked in with nothing I can do.
  • Plugins: They don’t exist. Big minus there. No chance for a Firebug in Chrome.
