This version is a continuation of the effort of trying to make the database download process easier. For people who are used to the old tethered version of the database install process, it was difficult for many users so the program was changed so it reads from an xml file that lists where the scriptures can be downloaded from. In the process the database structure was also changed, meaning that older versions of the database cannot be used with the newer programs. Many of the problems people are now experiencing are related to these two changes.
Version 0.2.5 was pointing at a small server and with the traffic that was hitting the server could not handle the requests and many people got the message that there were no scriptures to download. That issue has been resolved as the databases and xml file have been moved to a different server (now the only worry is if the bandwidth is exceeded).
Version 0.2.6 has a bug fix and an experimental feature: both related to chapter navigation. One was a bug fix and the other is flicking to move from chapter to chapter. Also the LDS scripture database was updated because D&C 77 only had the question parts of the verses and not the answers.
The tethered process and install instructions will still work, however the database must be one of the two updated databases which can be downloaded from the locations below. Once the database has been downloaded, select the ‘Choose’ option and in the preferences, navigate to the correct database (either bible.db or lds.db).
Awesome! I was praying for this application. Very responsive to navigate easily from chapter to verse. I would like to see Christ words in “RED”, but I’m not complaining. Thanks for providing the Holy Sciptures in KJV.
What format is the database in? Is it a Java database or something else?
It’s a SQLite database. The G1 supports SQLite databases out of the box and so it does not require any additional drivers to be installed or require any special handling.
didn’t work for me tried several times! invalid database?
If you cancel out of the screen before the download is complete you will not have a valid database because the system is still working on finalizing the file writing on the sd card. This has been updated in the beta version.
I can not get this to work for me. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the application, but it keeps telling me that the database can not be found. Then it gives me the option to choose or download. Please tell me the proper way to install this?
i had tons of trouble, i re-downloaded the databases over and over and finally i un-installed the app and reinstalled. then i came here, downloaded the db files to my computer and used the usb cable to mount my G1 and then put the files where they should be. it took me a few tries, and if i don’t unplug the usb cable while testing, it won’t work.
it works fine now, but what a hassle.
I installed the app then downloaded my scriptures data. installation was easy, and it works great! thanks!
Yea! Finally got it to work. Thanks a billion! Invaluable.
Wonderful application. Simple interface. Once database is downloaded all is well. Was difficult to download at first.
SUGGESTION: Landscape mode, move book/chapter header up so that more of the screeen is available for the text.
HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!OK, I might be the stupidest person alive. I tried to download from Android and I get just the program. I cannot download the scriptures. So, I tried to download the scriptures to my computer and then transfer them to the phone’s SD card. Once I do that, I try to find the file on the SD card but I cannot. so I do what T-mobile say to do which is format the SD card then open the “Music” file on the main screen. When I do this I can see only one file either bible or lds works. I try to open the file and then open a book eg.. Mark or Matthew and then my phone tells me that it “has stopped unexpectedly”.
What do I need to do to get this to work. I am ready to throw it through the wall!!!!!!!!!!
I found out that my SD card went bad on me.
Mark: Landscape mode is in the latest market release. Smaller header….I’ll have to look into that as I work on the other features.
DC: Ouch. I’m glad you figured out the problem.
GREAT JOB! Awsome for travelling. Any chance you could include some search features or footnotes and topical guide in future versions? Sounds like a lot of extra work. Thanks for your hard work on this
Great stuff, may we donate to the project? if so where? I too would like to see the indexes and topic guide, BD etc.
